City: Evanston
Country: US
State / Province: IL
Highlights of your life since graduation: While music can be the sound track to our lives, I was influenced by it. Starting at South Shore. folk music led me to the civil rights movement , the anti war movement and beyond. I majored in Sociology and Psychology receiving my B.A. at Roosevelt University. I was a DJ on their radio station, on the air when John Kennedy was assassinated. Choosing Social Work as a profession connected with the zeitgeist that our generation could change the world. The year I received my Masters was 1968, the year of the assassinations, and riots. The focus of change narrowed during my career as I focused on individual and family therapy . I spent 30 years working in a high school district with adolescents with severe problems giving me a schedule to be a more involved father with my children than the two I had. I remain married to Ruth, an R.N., and we have two adult children Julie who lives in DC and Jordan who is married and living with his wife Dina and our two granddaughters, Lilah and Evelyn.
Memories or anything else you'd like to share: I regret that several of my South Shore classmates who I was close friends with, will not be attending this event. In some cases it is due to to their demise. In other cases, it may be due to their disinterest and the distance they have traveled or have evolved during the past 50 years.

Carla Kelson (Lipson)

City: Lincolnwood
Country: US
State / Province: IL
Grade school attended: Bradwell
Highlights of your life since graduation: Briefly taught at Calumet High School then left to be a mom. I was the chief Restaurant Critic with Al for Chicago magazine, then headed the team of 6-8 dining critics. I was the Executive Assistant for the Chicago Fund on Aging and Disability, then became the store manager of Chefs Catalog stores in Highland Park and Chicago.
Memories or anything else you'd like to share: Eloped in 1966 with my first (and only) husband, Allen, and married him again 6 weeks later to please our parents (who never learned of our elopement). We'd met and lived in Hyde Park, then moved six years later to the northern suburbs, remaining in that area ever since. We are proud of our two kids (both local) and five grandchildren (all of them geniuses, of course).
