Highlights of your life since graduation:
I started college at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio but by the end of my freshman year, realized it was not the place for me - too many farms for a city person like me - and transferred to U of I. Yes, lots of cornfields but much closer to Chicago. The summer before my junior year, I travelled to New York City with some girl friends and that changed my life. Through a friend, I met Alan Haberman, the man I have been married to for 47 years. I finished college early and in 1965 Alan and I were married and I moved to New York where I have been ever since. After Alan's stint as a Judge Advocate in the Air Force, we settled on Long Island and in quick succession, I had 3 boys. It wasn't long before I realized that being a homemaker and mother were not going to do it for me for the rest of my life so I went to graduate school. In 1980 I began my career in community health. I first worked for a major hospital on Long Island developing health programming for senior citizens (that's us!)living in the community. In 1991, I started working in HIV/AIDS, an incredible experience that opened my eyes to people and things I had never before encountered. I worked at a county hospital on federal and state grants providing education to healthcare providers on clinical managemnet of the disease When I began my work, AIDS was a death sentence and when I left, it was becoming a chronic condition that, with proper use of medications, people could survive and live with for many years. In 2005 I retired and since I was living in New York City, started to take real advantage of all that New York offers: museums, classes, all the arts. To me this has been a dream come true. With New York at my fingertips, a home in Ct, and 7 grandchildren all withing driving distance, I am kept awfully busy and wouldn't have it any othe way! |

Memories or anything else you'd like to share: I feel so fortunate to have been at South Shore in the truly golden years. The teachers I loved and hated, the classes that were challenging and those that made us all laugh ( Miss Majors having us throw her money as she danced on a chair), the great social life and the good clean fun we all had, or seemed to have. Since I rarely run into anyone from the old neighborhood, I can't wait for the reunion and a chance to see classmates relive old memories. Growing up in South Shore was a real privilege and it still means so much to me. I even went to a David Mamaet play on Broadway just to hear the actor speak a line about the Jeffery 5 bus!!! |

Highlights of your life since graduation:
Given the greatest challenge in life [to raise three children, two girls and one boy]I became a "Jack of all trades"reaching into my bag of tricks and juggling many "hats".I was a chef, housekeeper, nurse, entertainer, storyteller, teacher,Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, taxi driver etc.etc..but most of all a pervader of childhood dreams and kisser away of "boo-boos". My rewards are dearer to me than all the tea in China, sticky kisses, sappy poems and homemade cards. I married only once to my Purdue University sweatheart ;we are still together after 45 years living in our first home in Trenton,Michigan for 42 of those years. I've traveled to foreign lands only in my imagination but have seen most of our USA. Summers with endless hazy, lazy days and nights have always been spent at our cottage on Lake Michigan by South Haven,48 steps to the top of the dune but with a view equal to any resort in the world. Life has been good;I've learned to enjoy the moment for in a fleeing second it is gone. I've discovered that the really important questions are not am I going to make alot of money;will I get a promotion, but are more like these...What do the flowers think beneath the snow? When do the birds make their reservations to fly north? What are my family and friends dreams? |

Memories or anything else you'd like to share:
Sock HOPS Jitterbugging with my best friend,Betty Paul Safely walking the streets after dark Miss Anna and her "Et Tu Brute?" Miss Molyneaux who later became a neighbor at the lake. Crew cuts, ponytails, bobby socks, penny loafers, white bucks and fluffy, fluffy prom dresses and of course those lovely green bloomer gym outfits My first pair of levis--only able to purchase in the Men's Departmen then going home to put them on and stand in a hot shower to shrink them to a female figure Using Baby Oil and Iodine to tan or should I say burn ? Miss Marion, her low cut tops and how all the boys would fight for front row seats. Homeroom with Miss Roche{ did you ever notice how many single teachers we had? I remember being one of a single handful of students in any given class on Jewish holidays[I was always so envious} Having my mother,Thelma Weston, often as a substitute teacher. |
