Highlights of your life since graduation:
So much happens in fifty years. Finished undergrad at Roosevelt and took a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Syracuse in 1969 and I married in 1969 as well. My wife Jeanne and I have been on the faculty of the University of Vermont for many years. My area is human development and hers is early childhood education. I have also served at times as department chair and center director and am currently working on my third book. We have two sons, Dan is a professor at the University of Washington, Seattle and Ben is Chief of Staff for one of the Assistant Secretaries in the Department of Health and Human Services in DC. We also have one very wonderful 15 month old granddaughter. So far, life has been very good to us and living in Vermont is wonderful although it does tend to get a bit cold in the winter. We travel to Italy often, both to visit schools as part of our work and because it's just a beautiful place to be. I'm not yet sure if I will be able to make the reunion or not but would certainly like to hear from any of you again. |

Memories or anything else you'd like to share:
I do have fond memories of SSHS and of growing up in South Shore although the fondness may have simply been that growing up in a fairly sheltered world, I wasn't yet aware that other places weren't as privileged as our place. But in any case, it was a good time in my life. I am also struck by how many of our classmates are no longer with us. Statistically, it is probably about the right percentage but that doesn't make it feel much better. Although I really never maintained contact with these people, I still find myself feeling a sense of loss. |

Highlights of your life since graduation:
Over the course of my life I have traversed a path from 7200 South to 7200 North, with a few forays into neighborhoods in between. Inside, I still feel I'm a south sider. BA Roosevelt University 1965 M.Ed. University of Illinois 1971 MLS Rosary College 1988 Highlight--quitting teaching for good and going back to school to get a degree in Library Science. 1984 Rosary College (now Dominican University) was the best school I ever attended, and I was lucky to have 2 brilliant professors mentor me on libraries and on life. I found my work "home" at the Chicago Public Library where I was first a children's librarian and then a branch manager until Nov 1 2010 when I retired. Retirement is wonderful...I have never felt so free. I have been back to South Shore several times because for a while my boss's office was in the South Shore Branch Library. I had the excitement of having Mayor Richard M. Daley visit my branch 4 times. Additional life lowlight/highlight= Cancer survivor 2003.I was lucky to have discovered this at a very early stage. |

Memories or anything else you'd like to share:
Clifford Cobb, U.S. History 2, was my favorite and best teacher. Highlights were summers at Rainbow Beach and Riverview, barbecued beef sandwiches at T Hut, laughing with friends, winning the Sing, and the Washington Trip. |
