Highlights of your life since graduation: I flew for United Airlines for several years. I Married in 1965 and had two girls. My husband was killed in a private airplane crash when our girls were 2 and 6. I remarried two years later and moved to Washington, DC. I stayed home with the girls until they were in High School and then went to work for a law firm where my husband worked. After 23 wonderful years, my husband died in his sleep at the age of 53. A year later I moved to Florida where I live three doors from my Mother, play golf and work part time in a pro shop at a golf course on the Intracoastal. Except for my girls and grandchildren living in North Carolina, I am very content! | |
Memories or anything else you'd like to share: It is very hard to believe we are preparing for our 50th reunion! I have always felt that we lived in the perfect time and in the perfect community! We got a great education at South Shore and had fun in the process. We did not have the pressure that children today have. Hi-Y and Tri-Y parties, dances downtown, football games, hayrides - lots of great memories! Even though I have faced some great sadness in my life, I still feel blessed with what I do have - wonderful girls, terrific grandchildren, best brother ever and my Mom is still healthy and lives close. Life is good! |

Highlights of your life since graduation:
Susie Merlander Dickman, my sweet Chicago cousin, encouraged me to write a profile. Having spent the last hour reading profiles of so many of you, I’m really glad that Susie said, “You should do it.” I must add how terribly sad I felt to read about those classmates who have died. My life since high school has been a good and productive one. Michael Winderbaum, my college sweetheart at the University of Wisconsin, has been my husband since 1964, and I’ve loved living in his “hometown” of New York City all this time. We do, however, return to Chicago pretty regularly for visits with family and friends. Our lives have been blessed with two wonderful daughters, their terrific husbands and four absolutely precious grandchildren. My two careers have brought me great fulfillment-----the first in Early Childhood Education, the second in Family Therapy. I still maintain a small private practice. Michael and I have the good fortune to travel frequently, and time now allows me the opportunity to pursue my interests in architecture, gardening (on my balcony!), museums and the extensive array of opportunities that NYC offers. |

Memories or anything else you'd like to share:
I look back on SSHS and fully realize that my education there made higher education a very manageable challenge. The English staff of Mr. Duban, Ms Annan, and Ms Mackie turned me onto literature and the power of effective writing. I can even say that Ms VonB’s having read Julius Caesar aloud to our class fostered my lifelong love of Shakespeare. And, last, thanks for your note about sitting next to me for four years in homeroom, John Berry. You always got my day off to such a good start. |
