Attended Carleton College 1 yr., then Northwestern Univ. Lived and worked in the Chicago NW suburbs. Got married late, and acquired an "instant" family - my stepson and stepdaughter, whose dad had passed away. Carol and I are now gr-grandparents. We are enjoying the Nashville, Tennessee area in our retirement.
Lived at 8202 Clyde til 1952, then 7829 Ridgeland.
I enjoy getting back to Chicago a couple of times a year, although we now prefer to avoid winter in the Midwest. To me, South Shore still looks like an attractive neighborhood. |

I flew for United Airlines for several years. I Married in 1965 and had two girls. My husband was killed in a private airplane crash when our girls were 2 and 6. I remarried two years later and moved to Washington, DC. I stayed home with the girls until they were in High School and then went to work for a law firm where my husband worked. After 23 wonderful years, my husband died in his sleep at the age of 53. A year later I moved to Florida where I live three doors from my Mother, play golf and work part time in a pro shop at a golf course on the Intracoastal. Except for my girls and grandchildren living in North Carolina, I am very content!
It is very hard to believe we are preparing for our 50th reunion! I have always felt that we lived in the perfect time and in the perfect community! We got a great education at South Shore and had fun in the process. We did not have the pressure that children today have. Hi-Y and Tri-Y parties, dances downtown, football games, hayrides - lots of great memories! Even though I have faced some great sadness in my life, I still feel blessed with what I do have - wonderful girls, terrific grandchildren, best brother ever and my Mom is still healthy and lives close. Life is good!

BA, English, Michigan State, 1965; MBA, Marketing & Finance, Kellogg/Northwestern, 1980. Married Peter Ritsos in 1982. I taught English at Bowen for my first year out of college and hated every minute of it! Career in public relations culminated with position of managing director of Chicago office of major international PR firm. Retired in 2002. Still work as PR consultant. We own a home in Palm Desert, CA, where we spend winters. Play lots of golf and bridge. Spent time in early '70s as activist in the women's rights movement. Still serve on board of a feminist organization. Continue to be active in progressive politics. Kicked off planning for our 50th reunion in 2009 and have been working on it ever since. I have spent hundreds of hours trying to find all of you!
I remember lots of carbohydrates - lunch would be mac & cheese, mashed potatoes and the famous brownies. I remember Mrs. Tugenberg talking about career planning in freshman algebra, and I had no idea what she was talking about. Of course I remember Miss Annan, the chicken foot and the skull & crossbones. I was always seated behind Susan Quale and in front of Bruce Rashkow. I remember learning to smoke cigarettes in sorority. And I remember being able to eat whatever I wanted without worrying about dieting. Fond memories of Tropical Hut and Rib Hill, lots of evenings out with good friends. We were so lucky to grow up in such a nurturing community. I have such fond memories of South Shore.

I went to the University of Chicago for my BA in Anthropology (American Archeology), and married straight out of college - a marriage that lasted 12 years, no children. Spent three memorable years in Augusta Georgia where I saw Martin Luther King, Jesse Jackson and Ralph Abernathy and was forcibly removed from a diner for having a hamburger with a bunch of black ministers. Then I went to the University of Pennsylvania for my MA, again in Anthropology/American Archeology - passed my PhD prelims, discovered there were no teaching jobs, hung up my trowel and went to work in New York doing mergers and acquisitions research, securities analysis and finally as a financial futures broker for 8 years. I married again, Nat Day, who was widowed, and adopted his two daughters, then seven and eleven. We have now been married 31 years. Annabelle Day lives in San Francisco, E.V. Day who is an artist lives with her husband Ted Lee, a food writer, in Brooklyn. No grandchildren, several grand cats. When I married Nat, I moved to Greenwich CT and quit working...became a gardening fanatic (topiary garden) and a devoted volunteer plus cofounded the Breast Cancer Alliance. In addition to gardening, I play Scrabble and we travel a lot.
Hmmmmm, my memories of high school are pretty vague.
