Celebrating anniversaries and holidays with my husband Jim, traveling around the world, riding on the Orient Express, surviving a hurricane in Fiji, living in a foreign country, starting a business with my daughter and last but definitely not least becoming a grandparent to Ally and Jacob.
It's really hard to believe that it has been 50 years since high school. Looking back I realize how fortunate we all were to get the great education we received at SSHS.

After high school I attended Harvard College and Harvard Medical School and completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. I spent an additional two years doing research at the National Institutes of Health and a year of fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. Since then
I have been working as a Hematologist/Oncologist at Beth Israel Deaconess and Mt. Auburn Hospitals in Boston and Cambridge respectively. Lois (Platt) and I have been married since 1967 and have two children, David, 39, an attorney in New York City, and Nancy, 37 a physician in Boston. Both of them married in 2009 and have enriched our family with their wonderful spouses. Lois and I enjoy biking on most of our vacations, and also, more recently, spending time with our new granddaughter, Maia Lange, who was born in October of 2010. |

Communications professor

Coles
After graduating from the University of Illinois with a degree in Communications, I joined the Broadcasting Commission of the Chicago Board of Rabbis as a production associate. Two years later, I was named director of the agency. I wrote and produced television shows for all of the stations in Chicago: documentaries, interview programs drama, children's programs, musicals and controversial talk shows.
Marriage in 1971 to Sidney J. Jacobs, a rabbi and journalist, took me to Los Angeles, where I joined the faculty of Los Angeles City College as a media consultant, earned a Master's in Mass Communication from California State University, Northridge and embarked on a career as a free-lance writer. Our marriage, which ended with Sid's death in 2001, was a partnership of soul mates. Sid focused his ministry on social justice, enriching our lives with involvement with Cesar Chavez and the farm workers, animal rights leaders and other activists in a variety of causes. Together, Sid and I wrote three books; "Clues about Jews for People Who Aren't," "122 Clues for Jews Whose Children Intermarry" and "Jewish Clues to Your Health and Happiness." We appeared on a number of radio and TV shows. As a community college professor, first at Los Angeles City College and since 1983 at West Los Angeles College, I have taught a variety of disciplines: television producing and directing, journalism, English, Speech, Cinema and Theater. In 2003, I was elected chair of the Language Arts Division at West, a position I still hold. I am a vegan, feminist, animal advocate, collector of dear friends, runner and tennis player, who is filled with gratitude for the blessings of my life. My biography appears in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who Among American Women. I have a vivid memory of Miss Mackie reading all of the parts in Macbeth. What an inspiration. |

Degrees from Indiana University, DePaul University, and Loyola University Chicago.
Two sons now ages 46 and 48 and 4 amazing grandchildren.
A career in higher education including 25 years as a faculty member and administrator at Loyola University Chicago, a year as a Fulbright Senior Scholar in South Africa,a Fulbright Specialist in Kazakhstan and other international career experiences in Malaysia and Cyprus. Published a few books and am now enjoying my own educational consulting practice. See website for details.
Continuing to travel widely, relishing time with my family and friends and enjoying the friendship and companionship of my partner, David.
After age 55, I rode a motorcycle 1500 miles in Australia, slept in the Sahara, and cruised along the Amazon. Still up for most any adventure!
Even though I lived just a few blocks away from SSHS, I was habitually late and was often detained in the office.
The summer of my junior year I traveled to Israel and worked on a kibbutz.
High School was not a particularly happy time for me, but I made some lifelong friends (Kiya Immergluck and Helen Berkovitz). Kiya remains one of my closest friends, and I remember Helen with love.
I just re-read the profiles of our class and continue to be amazed at the achievements of so many remarkable classmates.
With sadness, I note those who are no longer living and am reminded of the importance of living each day to the fullest.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the next reunion.
