While music can be the sound track to our lives, I was influenced by it. Starting at South Shore. folk music led me to the civil rights movement , the anti war movement and beyond. I majored in Sociology and Psychology receiving my B.A. at Roosevelt University. I was a DJ on their radio station, on the air when John Kennedy was assassinated. Choosing Social Work as a profession connected with the zeitgeist that our generation could change the world. The year I received my Masters was 1968, the year of the assassinations, and riots. The focus of change narrowed during my career as I focused on individual and family therapy . I spent 30 years working in a high school district with adolescents with severe problems giving me a schedule to be a more involved father with my children than the two I had. I remain married to Ruth, an R.N., and we have two adult children Julie who lives in DC and Jordan who is married and living with his wife Dina and our two granddaughters, Lilah and Evelyn.
I regret that several of my South Shore classmates who I was close friends with, will not be attending this event. In some cases it is due to to their demise. In other cases, it may be due to their disinterest and the distance they have traveled or have evolved during the past 50 years.

Nursing Professor

I have enjoyed a long nursing career, mostly in the ER, over 3 years as an ER manager, and finally 6 years as a nursing professor. Being a faculty member at Purdue University Calumet has been the highlight of my career. I have no plans to retire. I love this! We also have 3 children and 3 grandchildren within a few miles from us. Life is great!
Unfortunately, I remember cutting class and smoking cigarettes across the street on someone's stairs. Hmmm. I think I might have been a delinquent in training. I also remember many good times at Rainbow Beach, Carl's Hot Dogs, and the deli on 79th and Bennett. The only thing I have ever regretted in my whole life is not studying in high school, especially in Mr. Kelly's Civics class.

Married since 1964 to Richard, have 3 children, Jodi 1966, Michael 1968, and Sanford 1971, 4 wonderful grandchildren all living within 15 minutes. When moving to SChaumbrug in 1969,I started the Womens American ORT movement west. Started new chapters and a large Northwest region becoing President for a few years. In 1976 when I got into real estate I had to step back. I was a wonderful experience and I was an Israel Bond nominee for 1977. After that between work and the kids I had to step back devote my time to other things. It is a wonderful memory.
Richard is retired now so I will keep working in the field I still love but taking it a little slower I do not remember too much about school but I do remember the social life. The sing, football games at the Midway, Rainbow Beach, the JCC, and of course our great restuarants. Have been in touch with some old friends in the last year or two and would love to hear from some others. I am looking forward to this reunion, I have not been to one before. Looking forward to seeing and reconecting with old friends. |
